Torquay is the largest of the three towns, which make up
the popular holiday region of Torbay. Affectionately known
as the English Riviera, Torquay is renowned for it's excellent
climatic conditions. Torbay has over 22 miles of coastline
to explore and the main Torquay beach, Torre Abbey sands is
just a short walk from the popular Torquay harbour side area.
Also located in the Torquay harbour side is the Torquay tourist
information offices and The Princess Theatre. The English
Riviera center is within easy walking distance of Torre Abbey
sands and for tourists who like to shop the main town centre
and harbour-shopping complex is easily accessible on foot
from the sea front region. Torquay has a diverse range of
restaurants and eateries including Indian, Chinese, Italian,
French and Moroccan to name but a few. Traditional fish and
chip shops are available and fresh Brixham fish can be purchased
on the harbour side.
Popular entertainments in Torquay include Living Coasts (discover
life by the sea) Kents cavern prehistoric caves, ten pin and
crown green bowling, water sports, Torquay United football
club, Torquay Athletic Rugby club and Torquay Cricket club.
The main Torquay cinema is located in Abbey road part of the
town centre shopping region.
